Mentor Role Description
The role of the CODA Mentor is to act as a coach, guide, role model, advocate, and personal support system for their Mentee(s). Mentors understand the path it took for them to successfully finish the CODA shelter program and or any outside challenges that headers their overall wellbeing. This is an opportunity for you as a CODA mentor to give back to someone else that was just like you to encourage them to keep going just like someone else once did for you. The mentor is expected to display the skills of someone who is a good listener, Trustworthy, dedicated, and honorable.
Mentor Expectations
Mentoring for the Council on Domestic Abuse, Inc. is a responsibility to be taken seriously. Victims of domestic violence come to our shelter or our courthouse office for support and guidance, which we graciously extend. CODA employees work long, hard hours, and they sincerely appreciate the assistance from mentors.
We try and make our work as light-hearted and positive as possible because the job of domestic violence prevention is a daunting task, and oftentimes psychologically draining. It’s not a requirement that you have a positive attitude, but it is expected that while on CODA time, you will do your best to improve the lives of those around you, including your co-workers, shelter residents, and courthouse clients.
Because of the heavy workload of CODA employees, we have very high expectations for our mentors. If you are an over-achiever, CODA is the place for you! If you like to sit around at work and play on your cellphone, CODA is NOT the place for you. If any of this sounds like something you would be interested in doing scroll up to apply! We look forward to working with you.
